The Burdick family members thus far identified in the photos lived primarily in southern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas. Most early Minnesota relatives lived on farms near Forest City and Litchfield, Minnesota. Many Burdicks left the farms for city life in Minneapolis and St. Paul. During WWII, the Minnesota Burdicks spread widely, many to the west coast for jobs in defense plants. All Burdicks in this portion of the Burdick family are descendants of the original Robert Burdick through Reed Burdick, 1243 on page 503 of Nellie Johnson’s book, The Descendants of Robert Burdick of Rhode Island, and Reed’s son Wess, Abram Wesley Burdick, whose photo is in the Main Room of the Gallery.

If anyone can identify any of the individuals in these photos, please Email: seafox@cableone.net.

Footnotes on the photos:

1.      These individuals are believed to be the same. The chap in #8 has been identified as either William or Herman Gamer. Comparison with a group portrait of the Gamer family convinced me that it is William.*

2.      This couple has been identified as Alvin Burdick and his wife Kate (McDonald); who, also appear in Room II. Their reason for being in a logging camp for this photo is unknown. This photo was probably taken shortly after Alvin was inducted into the army in 1918. *****

3.      The car looks like a Ford Model A. Many people in my family owned this type of automobile. However, the auto in the picture looks new. That would place the date of the photo from 1927 and no later than1931.

4.      The individuals in these photos (3,4,24) have been identified and an additional photo has been discovered and posted. See Main Room Annex. ****

5.      A notation on the photo folder reads, “Clara Kerner.” This is probably Clara Koerner, daughter of Louisa Sophia (Gamer) Koerner. Sophia “Sophie” is a sister of Katherine “Kate” (Gamer) Burdick. ***

6.      After the identification of these people, the picture was been placed in Room IV. *

7.      These two adults (photos 25 and 30) appear to be the same individual. The adult and child in #30 also appear in Room XV with Kate Gamer Burdick.

8.      In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was common to have one’s photo placed on postcards. This photo was on the face of a postcard addressed to “Kate Burdick, Litchfield, Minn., Box 575. The postcard was not mailed. There is no message.

9.      Written on the reverse is “Virginia Kessel.”

10.  The young lady on the right could be Clara “Toots” Gamer, sister of Katherine (Gamer) Burdick. Lady on the left?

11.  Who the young lady is and just who is the barefoot boy with cheek are mysteries. However, what the lady is sitting on appears to be the rear platform of one of the steam-powered threshing machines owned by Seth Burdick.

12.  The erstwhile “Mysterious Lady” has been identified as Charlotte Wood. She may be seen in the photos of Room XI. The identification was made by Charlotte’s sister, Gerry.

13.  So many of these people have been identified that the picture was also placed in Room III. *

14.  The wasp-wasted ladies in #39 and #42 are the same individual.

15.  The ladies in #21, #44, and  #92, appear to me to be the same person, at different ages. Note also that pictures #10 and #21 have the same background, indicating to me that they are husband and wife.

16.  The two youngsters in #45 and #46 could be the same. The one in #45 has been identified as “Junior” Gamer (Harry W. Gamer, Jr.), who also appears in Room V. Chuckie Blaney pointed out that the houses in #45 and #48 are the same.

17.  The young lady in this picture has been identified as Florence Gamer.

18.  This is Mimi Wakefield. The lad appears to be the same as that in pictures #58 and #59.

19.   Ann (Gamer) Wood, l., Florence Gamer, Kate (Gamer) Burdick. The young man has been identified as Edwin Gamer. Florence is the wife of Edwin. Note that Florence is also the young lady in #67. The pictures appear to be taken on the same day. **

20.  In the center could be Seth Orville Burdick with sister Grace.

21.  The two girls in these photos are the same.

22.  Betty Wood on left, Charlotte Wood on right, Elsa Sorenson with spotty dress, Clara (Gamer) Sorenson holding Gerry Wood. Top of head is Ann (Gamer) Wood. **

23.   Kate (Gamer) Burdick **

24.  Edwin Gamer, son of Louis and Sophie Gamer. **

25.  These photos were probably taken in the same logging camp as those of pictures #12 and #13.

28.  Herman Gamer and Wife Hattie. *
