Burdick Family Gallery

Room XX

All pictures on this page, and the next , were contributed by cousin Eleanor Ticknor. Eleanor is a descendant of Mary Jane (Burdick) Arnold pictured here and also in the Main Room of this Gallery. A tip of the family hat goes to cousin Eleanor for this fine and sizable contribution to the family history. For more on Eleanor and her family, see the bottom of the following page.

The pictures of Mary Jane’s descendants were retouched only to remove superfluous borders and major discoloring due to age. Miscellaneous damage spots were left untouched.

“The individuals pictured are (l. to r.) Mary Jane Burdick’s three oldest daughters, son-in-law, and granddaughter. In the same order, these are: Ellen Howland Rood, Estella Howland Brazee, Mary Howland Thomas Partridge, Irving Partridge (Mary’s 2nd husband) and Lutilla “Tillie” Thomas (Mary’s daughter by her 1st husband, Frank, Thomas.

This picture would have been taken before May 1942 as that was the year Mary died, Irving d. in 1943, Estella in 1945 and Ellen in 1953.  Tillie died in 1958.  (Ellen and Estella were  widowed in 1932 and 1930 respectively.)”

We see here, grandchildren of Mary Jane (Burdick) and Chadiah Arnold. Back row:  L to R: Eleanor’s grandfather, Lewis Chadiah Phillips with his brother, Barnum Brazee Phillips.

Front row: L to R: Alice Elma (Phillips) Hinrichsen; Ella Jerusha (Phillips) Wilkinson.

In Eleanor’s own words, “The picture was taken at the home of my great-aunt Alice (Phillips) Hinrichsen and her husband, Herbert.  Fortunately, the picture was dated Sept. 14, 1943.

Their house and farm was located on Howland Hill in the Town of Lisle, Broome County, NY.  Howland Hill had been settled by Warren Howland's ancestors. Warren was Mary Jane (Burdick)'s first husband and I believe Mary Jane's daughter, Elma Arnold, was born there, too.”
