Family Slide Shows

I put reunion photos taken by my sister, Jackie, and I, and Robert Sullivan, into slide shows. For ease of downloading, I split the longest slide show, u, into three others, v thru x; which, you can access below. All slide shows u thru z are made of photos, taken in MN during the trip to the Sullivan Family reunion, by my sister, Jackie (Burdick) Sparks, her husband Jim, cousin Robert Sullivan, and me.

Click on the pictures below to access the slide shows. Give the shows time to download, depending on your speed of Internet access. Please turn your speaker on while viewing all slide shows! Make sure your system is configured to play MP3 audio files. In My Computer, go to Tools, Folder Options, File Types.., and scroll down to MP3. If you don’t find that file type, add it. In either case, associate MP3 files with an installed audio player program. I use Windows Media Player 10.0 ;  which, can be downloaded for free.

The picture is sunset on Lake Ripley. Jackie (Burdick) Sparks was born in a house on the shore of this lake. The lake is adjacent to Litchfield, MN, a few miles from Manannah, where the Sept. 5th 2004 Sullivan Family reunion was held, and not far from Eden Valley and Forest City. Litchfield and Forest City figure prominently in the Burdick family past. Eden Valley plays a similar role in Sullivan family history. It was a pleasure visiting all these communities.

This fine picture by Jackie Sparks.

The first part of the reunion trip was a visit with cousin Rosie (Nistler) Becker and her husband LuVern on their farm near Manannah, MN. You see here their red farmhouse. Parked in front is the fifth wheel Jim and Jackie Sparks towed to and from their home in Independence, OR. This beautiful house and grounds are available for viewing in this slide show.

The Sept. 5th 2004 Sullivan Family Reunion, in Manannah, MN, was very enjoyable. My sister, Jackie (Burdick) Sparks, and I met and chatted with many relatives we had never met and with those we had not seen for many years. Click on the picture to view the slide show. Jackie here is seen reading a memoir of our mother, Alice (Sullivan) Burdick.

The pictures in the show were contributed by Jackie (Burdick) Sparks and husband Jim, Robert Sullivan, and myself.

Here is the sole remaining building at the site of the farm owned by James and Elizabeth Sullivan. Here you see cousin Rosie Becker and Jim Sparks. Rosie is the daughter of Martin and Cecilia Nistler. Cecilia is a sister of Alice (Sullivan) Burdick, mother of Jackie and myself. Click on the picture to download a slide show of a tour of the farmsite and a look around the Nistler farmsite.

Pictured here is a reconstruction of the Forest City stockade. During the Great Sioux Uprising in MN (1862), our great-grandmother, infant Sarah Wakefield, was taken there for refuge. Her father, Leander, also took refuge here after a harrowing escape from marauding Sioux. An estimated 300 to 800 Minnesota settlers were killed during the uprising.

This is the Burdick/Wakefield family burial plot in the Forest City cemetery. The pictures in this slide show are of headstones and markers of members of the two families. Notably absent are headstones of Abram and Lydia Burdick. These could not be located, although they are recorded as being buried here. Perhaps the stone fragments at the foot of the tree are remnants of these stones.

This slide show contains pictures of a salmon fishing at the mouth of the Columbia River. On the trip were my Goddaughter Lori (Regimbal) Stomps (daughter of Jackie Sparks), and Lori’s husband Scott Stomps. With them were their daughters Angie and Aimee, their granddaughters Courtney and Aliya, Angie’s husband, Hiro Kurata, and family friends. Pictured here is Lori, showing a nice Chinook salmon, about to be operated on in the cleaning station behind her.

This is my granddaughter, Elena Rose Burdick, in her mother’s lap at my house on Easter Sunday, 2005. At four months of age, this was Ellie’s first Easter. Ellie is a fourteenth generation descendant of Robert Burdick of Rhode Island.

Click on the picture to see an Easter Day slideshow of Ellie with her mother and father and me.

This lovely lady is a 13th generation descendant of Robert Burdick of Rhode Island, Lori (Regimbal) Scott. Lori is a niece, and goddaughter, of myself, Gary Burdick. Lori is pictured here with a Chinook salmon caught while on an outing at the mouth of the Columbia River in August 2005.

The new boat is a recent purchase by Lori and her husband, Scott (One Shot) Stomps. Lori laughingly refers to the boat as, “My new car.” Yes, Lori still drives her old car; but, she and Scott both thoroughly enjoy their new North River.
