Many of the pictures on this website were found among the effects of my grandmother, Katherine (Gamer) Burdick, and my mother, Alice (Sullivan) Burdick. Indeed, it was the discovery of these pictures that prompted the formation of this site. As you will see, some of the pictures are quite old, some not so old, and many are in very bad condition due to lying unprotected in a box for years. Some of the pictures were salvaged from negatives similarly unprotected. Unfortunately, many of the pictures were beyond salvation.

The bulk of the pictures herein are of a clan of Minnesota Burdicks who settled near Forest City and Litchfield in the mid 1800s. The Sullivan family members settled in nearby Eden Valley, MN, a few years later. Many of the pictures are of people related by marriage to these two families.

Many of the older pictures were contributed by my cousins. In some cases, these relatives were several times removed. Contact with these individuals came through the efforts of Chuckie Blaney, who is the maternal grandmother of my granddaughter Caitlin. Chuckie’s Herculean work, on the genealogy of this branch of the Burdick Family, and enate families, has produced a prodigious amount of family information, ties, and history, as well as a valuable portion of the visual record. The collective hats of the families Burdick, Gamer, Sullivan, Fitzpatrick, Wakefield, et al., are raised to Chuckie.

Enjoy your visit.

Here is an octad of 14th generation descendants of Robert Burdick of Rhode Island. To the left is my youngest grandchild, Elena Rose, ecstatic to be on the knee of Santa. Elena was four years old last month. According to my daughter-in-law, Tena Burdick, Elena was so excited that her little knees were knocking on the way up to see Santa.

The lovely young lady with the flowers is my oldest grandchild, Caitlin Rose. Caitlin is majoring in English at Springfield Community College, Springfield, MA; where, according to her mother, Megan, and maternal grandmother, Chuckie Blaney (below), Caitlin is doing quite well. She aspires to an acting career.

On the stairs to the right are, starting from the bottom, grandchildren Michael, Stephanie, James, Elizabeth, Thomas, Samuel, their parents Wendy and my son Sean. Sean, of course, is a 13th generation descendant of RB of RI. For information on these grandchildren, click here.

All photos are wonderful mementos of Christmas, 2008.

This is Chuckie Blaney (l.) with whom many of you met, talked, or corresponded. It is through her research efforts that the genealogies were compiled. Thus, Chuckie’s work revealed most of the family names and relationships seen herein. Here, Chuckie appears with Karyl Hubbard, who was recently Chuckie’s guest for a few days while visiting Boston. Many rare photos appearing on these pages were unearthed by Chuckie or by people contacted by her. Chuckie continues genealogy work on families connected with this Burdick stirps, notably at this time, The Wakefield Family.

The Hubbard line, of interest here, descends from Oliver Alanson Hubbard, nee Burdick, who was adopted by Hubbards upon the death of his parents, Abram Wesley and Lydia (Cain) Burdick. Karyl is the wife of Jerry and daughter-in-law of Newell, grandson of Oliver.

(1) To open any picture on this site, left-click on the picture. To save any picture, right click on the opened picture and select “Save picture As...” Once opened, many images on this site can be enlarged by placing the cursor on the picture and either clicking on the arrowed box in the lower, right-hand, corner of the image, or clicking when the cursor changes to a little magnifying glass.

(2) Ten pictures have been added to the Unidentified Burdicks section, 119 through 128. Some of these pictures are absolutely fascinating!

(3) A thumbnail program has been added to the Unidentified Burdicks section. It is now much easier to flip through the pictures and find the ones you are looking for. Thumbnail programs will eventually be added to the other sections as well.

(4) If you hear no slide show sound after turning your speakers on, double click on the speaker icon in the lower, right-hand, corner of your screen. Make sure your Wave and Play Control channels are not muted and the sound is turned up. Slide shows may take a few minutes (cable) to hours (phone line) to download depending on your Internet connection.
