Many of the pictures on this website were found among the effects of my grandmother, Katherine (Gamer) Burdick, and my mother, Alice (Sullivan) Burdick. Indeed, it was the discovery of these pictures that prompted the formation of this site. As you will see, some of the pictures are quite old, some not so old, and many are in very bad condition due to lying unprotected in a box for years. Some of the pictures were salvaged from negatives similarly unprotected. Unfortunately, many of the pictures were beyond salvation.

The bulk of the pictures herein are of a clan of Minnesota Burdicks who settled near Forest City and Litchfield in the mid 1800s. The Sullivan family members settled in nearby Eden Valley, MN, a few years later. Many of the pictures are of people related by marriage to these two families.

Many of the older pictures were contributed by my cousins. In some cases, these relatives were several times removed. Contact with these individuals came through the efforts of Chuckie Blaney, who is the maternal grandmother of my granddaughter Caitlin. Chuckie’s Herculean work, on the genealogy of this branch of the Burdick Family, and enate families, has produced a prodigious amount of family information, ties, and history, as well as a valuable portion of the visual record. The collective hats of the families Burdick, Gamer, Sullivan, Fitzpatrick, Wakefield, et al., are raised to Chuckie.

Enjoy your visit.

The lady on the right (above) is Chuckie Blaney with whom many of you met, talked, or corresponded. It is through her research efforts that the genealogies herein were compiled. Thus, Chuckie’s work revealed most of the family names and relationships seen on this site. At present, Chuckie is continuing work on the Wakefield and Heil families. The lovely young lady cuddling up to Chuckie is one of her granddaughters, Caitlin; who, is also my first grandchild.

According to a Christmas 2009 communication from Chuckie, “Caitlin is finishing up at Greenfield Community College, majoring in English. She’s doing really well.” Nicely done, Caitlin. We are all very proud of you! The picture on the left was taken at Boothbay Harbor, Maine, August 2008, by Caitlin’s mother, Megan. The picture above, center, is circa December 2009 and through the courtesy of Chuckie Blaney.

The little lady above, right, is my little Sweetie-Pie, Elena Rose. She is my 9th and youngest grandchild, the daughter of my son, Ben, and his lovely wife, Tena. The picture was taken not long before Christmas, 2009. Ellie was tickled pink to sit on the lap of the big guy.

Notes:

(1) To open any picture on this site, left-click on the picture. To save any picture, right click on the opened picture and select “Save picture As...” Once opened, many images on this site can be enlarged by placing the cursor on the picture and either clicking on the arrowed box in the lower, right-hand, corner of the image, or clicking when the cursor changes to a little magnifying glass.

(2) Ten pictures have been added to the Unidentified Burdicks section, 119 through 128. Some of these pictures are absolutely fascinating!

(3) A thumbnail program has been added to the Unidentified Burdicks section. It is now much easier to flip through the pictures and find the ones you are looking for. Thumbnail programs will eventually be added to the other sections as well.

(4) If you hear no slide show sound after turning your speakers on, double click on the speaker icon in the lower, right-hand, corner of your screen. Make sure your Wave and Play Control channels are not muted and the sound is turned up. Slide shows may take a few minutes (cable) to hours (phone line) to download depending on your Internet connection.
